WEVRS is Now the Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad

After 53 years of service, our name now better reflects the community we serve: the entire City of Richmond.

The geography of the Richmond area has changed significantly since we were founded as the West End Volunteer Rescue Squad in 1960.  As time has passed, we’ve grown to serve every single neighborhood in the City of Richmond, and it’s time that our name reflects that fact.

We’ve changed our name.  We’ve changed our vehicles.  We’ve changed our logo.  But one thing hasn’t changed: the group of dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to serve our community when they need it the most!

The Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad is an advanced life support Emergency Medical Services agency that has been serving the City of Richmond since 1960.  Our volunteers respond to emergency calls for service in every Richmond neighborhood, providing world-class care alongside our partners at the Richmond Ambulance Authority.  And, we provide invaluable initial training and on-the-job experience for new volunteers, and have helped launch the careers of countless public safety responders, nurses, physicians, and other professionals!

The Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad is a non-profit, all-volunteer agency that relies on the generous support of the community to keep our doors open.  Help ensure that we can continue responding to your calls for help, and continue providing the invaluable job training and experience for new volunteers by contributing today!
